Session B104
Tuesday, November 6, 3:15 p.m. 4:00 p.m.
Tired of trying to keep track of what's new on the Web, how to find it again, and search for specific file types? Want to be able to get the latest and greatest with the least amount of effort? This presentation will reveal free and inexpensive tools that allow you to easily keep abreast of website updates, find sites that you found useful in the past, and finding tools for file types often not indexed by search robots.
Here are the tools that will be covered:
Spyonit - http://www.spyonit.com/Home
Spyonit.com
is a free online service that provides notifications to users of various customizable
events such as Web page changes, newsgroup postings on specific topics or by
specific individuals, closing bell stock quotes, etc. Notifications can be set
by the user to come via email, instant message, cell phone or PDA.
BookmarkSync -
http://www.syncit.com
BookmarkSync makes it easy to find and access favorite websites regardless of
the browser or computer one is using. It
was a free downloadable application but as
of November 1, 2001, the cost is $50 to download the software. However, you
get 20 free syncs so you can test drive it for free. BookmarkSync allows real-time
automatic synchronization that allows access to bookmarks, favorites, and favorite
files from any computer or any browser.
Search Adobe PDF Online
- http://searchpdf.adobe.com/
Most of us have heard of the invisible web and the inability for many search
engines to ferret out specialized files such as those in Adobe PDF (Portable
Document Format). Find out what Adobe is doing to make it possible to find PDF
documents on the Web. We'll also look at Google's
ability to find PDFs.
