“Easy Stats” Web Tool Mines U.S. Census Bureau Statistics Data

bar graphEasy Stats is a new online tool developed to make statistics quicker and easier to access. The interactive tool provides selected demographic and economic statistics from the American Community Survey. Easy Stats allows searching by geography down to the local level, including incorporated places like cities and towns and census designated places. View detailed race, age and gender breakdowns, and compare communities.

It’s really easy. All you do is 1) choose a topic (financial, jobs, housing, people or education) and 2) select geography by state and then refine, if wanted, by county, then city or town.

For example, I wanted to check the statistics for owner occupied residences in my hometown. I chose 1) Housing and 2) State, and refined it by adding my city. I clicked the blue Get Results button and up popped a table with current information citing the source with explanatory footnotes. There is also a button to display the margin of error for the statistics. Lastly, one can click on the MS Excel button and it will download the statistics to a nicely formatted Excel spreadsheet to your computer or edevice.
